Having stocked it with provisions, he embarked in it with Pyrrha. And when Zeus would destroy the men of the Bronze Age, Deucalion, by the advice of Prometheus, constructed a chest. He, reigning in the regions about Phthia, married Pyrrha, the daughter of Epimetheus (the brother of Prometheus) and Pandora (the first woman fashioned by the gods). That was the penalty that Prometheus paid for the theft of fire until Heracles afterwards released him. Every day an eagle swooped on him and devoured the lobes of his liver, which grew by night. Prometheus was nailed to the mountain and kept bound for many years. When Zeus learned of it, he ordered Hephaestus to nail Prometheus to Mount Caucasus, a Scythian mountain. From the Theogony of the Bibliotheca Īccording to the theogony of the Bibliotheca, Prometheus moulded men out of water and earth and gave them fire which, unknown to Zeus, he had hidden in a stalk of fennel. The Megarians told that Megarus, son of Zeus and a Sithnid nymph, escaped Deucalion's flood by swimming to the top of Mount Gerania, guided by the cries of cranes. The Bibliotheca gives this as an etymology for Greek Laos ( λᾱός, 'people') as derived from laas ('stone'). Then, at the bidding of Zeus, he threw stones behind him, and they became men, and the stones Pyrrha threw became women. When the rains ceased, he sacrificed to Zeus. Another account has him landing on a peak, probably Phouka, in Argolis, later called Nemea. An older version of the story told by Hellanicus has Deucalion's "ark" landing on Mount Othrys in Thessaly. Deucalion and his wife Pyrrha, after floating in the chest for nine days and nights, landed on Parnassus. The mountains in Thessaly were parted, and all the world beyond the Isthmus and Peloponnese was overwhelmed. All other men perished except for a few who escaped to high mountains. The Titan Prometheus advised his son Deucalion to build a chest. The Deucalion legend as told by the Bibliotheca has some similarity to other deluge myths such as the Epic of Gilgamesh (which Stephanie West writes was likely the source of this myth ) the story of Noah's Ark in the Judeo-Christian telling and the story of Manu's ark in the Hindu, Buddhist and Jain religions. In many traditions the Ogygian flood is said to have covered the whole world and was so devastating that Attica remained without kings until the reign of Cecrops. Others say he was the founder and king of Thebes. The name Ogyges and Ogygian is synonymous with "primeval", "primal" and "earliest dawn". The Ogygian flood is so called because it occurred in the time of Ogyges, a mythical king of Attica. In addition, the texts report that "many great deluges have taken place during the nine thousand years" since Athens and Atlantis were preeminent. Plato also alludes to a well-known event of great destruction, in Statesman (270), where "only a small part of the human race survives", presumably also referring to the flood of Deucalion. Ten thousand years before his time, as opposed to only "one or two thousand years that have elapsed" since the discovery of music, and other inventions. In Laws, Book III, argues that a great flood had occurred In Timaeus (22) and in Critias (111–112) he describes the "great deluge of all", specifying the one survived by Deucalion and Pyrrha, as having been preceded by 9,000 years of history before the time of Solon, during the 10th millennium BCE. Plato makes reference to great floods in several of his dialogues, including Timaeus, Critias, and Laws. The consequence is, that in comparison of what then was, there are remaining only the bones of the wasted body, as they may be called, as in the case of small islands, all the richer and softer parts of the soil having fallen away, and the mere skeleton of the land being left." Sources "Many great deluges have taken place during the nine thousand years, for that is the number of years which have elapsed since the time of which I am speaking and during all of this time and through so many changes, there has never been any considerable accumulation of the soil coming down from the mountains, as in other places, but the earth has fallen away all round and sunk out of sight. In addition to these floods, Greek mythology also says the world was periodically destroyed by fire, such as in the myth of Phaëton. Like most flood myths, these stories often involve themes of divine retribution, the savior of a culture hero, and the birth of a nation or nations. Differing sources refer to the flood of Ogyges, the flood of Deucalion, and the flood of Dardanus, though often with similar or even contradictory details. Greek mythology describes various great floods throughout ancient history. Great floods throughout ancient history as described in Greek mythology

genodive automatically recognizes which format a text file is in and reads the data, without any need for dialogues. This circumvents tedious recoding of text files from one format to the other, or the use of third‐party tools to do such reformatting. Genodive can seamlessly import and export data in a wide variety of formats. The genodive user interface, with its most important features explained genodive is available for computers running Mac OS X 10.7 or higher and can be downloaded freely from. In addition, genodive makes it possible to run several external programs ( lfmm, structure, instruct and vegan) directly from its own user interface, avoiding the need for data reformatting and use of the command line. A unique feature of genodive is that it can also open data sets with nongenetic variables, for example environmental data or geographical coordinates that can be included in the analysis. The different types of analyses offered by genodive include multiple statistics for estimating population differentiation ( φ ST, F ST, Fʹ ST, G ST, Gʹ ST, Gʹʹ ST, D est, R ST, ρ), analysis of molecular variance‐based K‐means clustering, Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium, hybrid index, population assignment, clone assignment, Mantel test, Spatial Autocorrelation, 23 ways of calculating genetic distances, and both principal components and principal coordinates analyses. One major feature of genodive is that it supports both diploid and polyploid data, up to octaploidy (2 n = 8 x) for some analyses, but up to hexadecaploidy (2 n = 16 x) for other analyses. Furthermore, genodive seamlessly supports 15 different file formats for importing or exporting data from or to other programs. genodive has an intuitive graphical user interface that allows direct manipulation of the data through transformation, imputation of missing data, and exclusion and inclusion of individuals, population and/or loci. This version presents a major update from the previous version and now offers a wide spectrum of different types of analyses. Genodive version 3.0 is a user‐friendly program for the analysis of population genetic data. Fire up your terminal and then execute the following commands which makes a new React project: Now that we have some information, here’s what the rest of the blog will tell you about: Less code and more features: almost every form handling scenario is covered all in fairly fewer lines of code.Uses existing HTML: you can leverage the powers of HTML to work with this library.Performance: the best part is that it minimizes the re-renders required and also mounts up fairly quickly, thereby increasing the overall experience.Small in size: it’s a tiny library with no other dependencies to install.that falls under similar lines but here’s why it goes above all those: Sure, there have been other libraries like Formik, React Final Form, etc. About the library React Form Hook is a React library that is used to make performant, flexible, and extensible forms with easy-to-use validation support. One such open-source library to handle all things related to forms is React Form Hook and in this article, we will get to know how to use this with a suitable example. While the traditional approach to build, code and gather information from a form in a webpage can simply be done with the power of HTML code, but when the website gets complex or scales up in size, (say, when you are on an e-commerce website), we need to leverage some of the external libraries that were meant to get things done easily and are able to integrate with other tech stacks quickly. We call such web entities ‘forms’ and forms on a webpage are nothing but a collection of elements that allows a user to enter data that is then sent over to the server for further processing. You can see what we are going to build in the image below.įirst, we need to update the App.jsx and App.css files, as these were created with some pre-existing JSX and styles that we don’t need.Īpp.jsx import "./App.css" import LoginForm from "./components/loginForm/LoginForm.Someone inputting his details and hitting that ‘Submit’ button is one of the most widely used and reliable forms of getting the data from a user on any website. If you haven’t heard about Vite before, check out my article about it for an introduction- What Is Vite: The Guide to Modern and Super-Fast Project Tooling. We are going to use Vite to quickly scaffold a new React project. You can find the full code example for this article in this GitHub repo and an interactive StackBlitz code example below. Now, let’s start by setting up a React project. In the past, class components were the primary method of authoring React components, but they were replaced by Hooks, as they are much better for writing reusable and maintainable stateful logic. I recommend you get familiar with React Hooks sooner than later, as they are now the standard way of creating React applications. It explains in detail what Hooks are, their benefits and how to use the most common ones, such as useState and useEffect. If you have never used React Hooks before, then you should check out this React Hooks guide. This article will demonstrate how to use Hooks to implement a React login form with validation that will run whenever a user leaves (blurs) a field or tries to submit the form. A good form should be user friendly and provide meaningful feedback if a user does not provide the required information in a correct format (form validation). They are often used to collect information from a website’s users and visitors. Today we’ll cover how to create and validate a login form using React Hooks.įorms are one of the most common features found in web applications. By feigning the acoustic markers of expressive human musical performance, virtual instrument designers and composer-users encourage the listener to produce, in themselves, the experience of hearing an orchestra or singer. In particular, it examines two case studies-virtual orchestras and virtual singers-to consider how their design and implementation seek to express human music performance by adopting the micro and macro sonic variations of timing, pitch, dynamics, articulation, and ambience, and other limitations imposed by the physical relationship between the player and the instrument. But it’s also affected by the length between the camera lens and subject, and even your camera model. In manual shooting, aperture controls depth of field. Pam Bradford, CLG Instructor Camera Settings For Group Photos – Where to Start Related: How to Photograph an Extended Family Session Related: Posing Guide for Beautiful Family PortraitsĬonversely, this extended family with far more people than the image above, was shot at f/4.5 but everyone is in focus because they’re sitting on just 2 focal planes. The deeper your group of people, the more depth of field you need to get them all in focus. This family was photographed with an aperture of f/ 5.6 because they’re sitting on roughly 3 separate focal planes. So when taking photos of groups with people several deep, other than using the best lens for group photos, you also need a deeper depth of field to ensure everyone is in focus from front to back.Īnd we adjust that depth of field by closing down the aperture (increasing f stop number). Outside of that focal plane, you will see a gradual reduction in focus, in front and behind the subjects. on the same focal plane!Īnd here’s a real life example… a family of four all sitting pretty much at the same focal plane, shot at f/2.8 and all in sharp focus. In this graphic everyone would be in focus regardless of aperture range because they’re all standing next to each other… ie. Whether the group was 2 people or 50 people! The question is not how many people, but how many people DEEP!īecause the issue here is depth not width, or focal plane in photography speak. So this means if you’re taking a large group photo and every person is standing side by side in a straight line, and you were standing directly in front of them, they would all be in focus at a wide aperture. When you focus on a subject everything to their side is on the same focal plane, and will also be in focus. I get asked this question often by people trying to get their camera settings right and choosing the best lens for group photos, and the answer is not what you’d expect! Now let’s imagine our beds are the heads of an extended family grouped together! We want to ensure all our people in a group will be clear and in focus. When we increase the f stop to f/8 (also known as stopping down or closing down the aperture) we have more beads in focus behind the bead that we focused on. You can see in our beads example below… at f/2 (known as a wide aperture ) we have only one bead in focus. The size of aperture can range from small aperture to maximum aperture with many variations in between as we open up and shut down our lenses … see our very technical diagram! Unlike a large aperture, a narrow aperture of the lens is used when we take a photo where we want to get everything from front to back to be in sharp focus, such as a landscape image. larger aperture area of focus in front of and behind your subject) Narrow aperture = high aperture of f stop number (eg. We use wider aperture for blurry background s, such as an image of a flower or person and then everything behind it is out of focus. small area of focus in front of and behind your subject) Remember aperture range is measured in f stops : Wide Aperture = low f stop number (eg. How much depth of field you have is controlled by your aperture setting. Related: What is The Exposure Triangle What Is Depth of Field?ĭepth of field is the area of focus in front of and behind the point where you focused (that would be your subject!). It refers to the physical opening of your l ens, and is measured in f stop (eg. Sarah Croker – Click Love Grow Graduate What Does The Aperture Do?Īperture is one of the three elements that controls exposure in your camera, while also affecting your depth of field. To help you get all the answers, in today’s post we’ll have a closer look at what aperture is, so that you can confidently decide which one to use next time you’re photographing a large group of people or shooting landscape photography. “ When would you use a 1.4 aperture ? ”, “ How do I know what aperture to use ? ”, or “ When would you use low aperture ?” are some of the questions I receive most often. In order to get everyone in a focus point, we need to use a narrow aperture, but then we lose our blurry backgrounds! And this is where people run into difficulty, when it comes to selecting the right camera settings and choosin g the best lens for group photos. You need to be shooting in manual mode to get those blurry backgrounds on purpose! So if you’re not, familiarise yourself with the exposure triangle and jump in!īut if you are shooting in manual mode, then you’ll know you need a wide open aperture to get those blurry background s.
